ASTM A387 Grades for Specific High-Temperature Applications

In addition to the basic grades, ASTM A387 includes other specialized grades that are designed for more demanding applications, where high strength and resistance to corrosion and oxidation are essential.

Grades of ASTM A387 (Continued)
Grade 22: Contains 2.25% Chromium and 1% Molybdenum. This grade is widely used in industries like refining and petrochemical, as it offers excellent strength and resistance to high-temperature oxidation.

Grade 91: Contains 9% Chromium and 1% Molybdenum. Known for its superior high-temperature strength, it is commonly used in power plants and chemical plants where both high strength and corrosion resistance are required.

Grade 12: Contains 2% Chromium and 0.5% Molybdenum. Grade 12 is ideal for environments that experience lower to medium temperatures and pressures but still require good corrosion resistance.

Each grade of ASTM A387 offers unique advantages, including improved high-temperature performance, corrosion resistance, and weldability. The right grade should be selected based on the specific demands of the application, ensuring that the material performs optimally under harsh conditions. Whether it’s for a boiler, pressure vessel, or other high-temperature components, ASTM A387 provides reliable solutions for industries requiring durable and resistant materials.
