Thick Steel Plates in Large Hydraulic Press Frames
Large hydraulic presses are used in industries such as metal forming, forging, manufacturing, and heavy equipment production. These machines generate very high forces during operation, so the main frame must withstand substantial mechanical loads without excessive deformation. Thick steel plates are commonly used as important components of heavy press structures. The frame of a hydraulic press may include side plates, upper and lower structures, connecting members, and other heavily loaded components. Depending on the machine design, these parts may require thick plates with suitable strength, toughness, weldability, and dimensional stability.
Material selection is influenced by the working force and structure of the press. Higher loads generally require careful consideration of plate thickness, steel grade, and structural design. The engineer may also specify requirements for impact toughness, chemical composition, mechanical properties, and welding performance.
Fabrication is another important factor. Thick plates for hydraulic press frames may require cutting, drilling, machining, and welding before assembly. Stable plate quality helps manufacturers maintain dimensional accuracy during fabrication. For welded structures, appropriate welding procedures and preheating or heat treatment requirements may need to be considered according to the selected steel grade and plate thickness.
Large press frames can contain many thick and heavily loaded components. Poor material selection or inconsistent plate properties can create difficulties during fabrication and operation. For this reason, buyers normally specify detailed requirements for thickness, width, length, grade, delivery condition, and applicable standards.
Thick steel plates supplied for heavy hydraulic equipment should therefore be selected according to the actual machine design rather than thickness alone. A suitable combination of strength, toughness, fabrication performance, and dimensional quality helps manufacturers build reliable heavy-duty press structures.
