Performance characteristics of steel plate in thickness direction

There is a certain difference in the mechanical energy of steel plate (especially thick plate) in three directions, which is due to the deformation of metal during rolling and the formation of layered microstructure.

Generally, the performance along the rolling direction (length direction) is the best, the performance perpendicular to the rolling direction (width direction) is the second, and the performance in the thickness direction is poor.

Local delamination, looseness, cracks and other phenomena often occur in the thickness direction of thick steel plate, which is the main reason for the poor performance in the thickness direction or the occurrence of layered cracks.

The delamination, looseness, crack and other phenomena in the thickness direction mainly come from the defects such as sulfur and phosphorus segregation and non-metallic inclusions in the steel.

Metallurgical measures such as reducing inclusions in the steel, reducing the content of sulfur and phosphorus, and treating the inclusions with calcium are important measures to improve the thickness directivity and layered tearing resistance of the steel plate.
