The difference between 42CrMo and 42CrMo4

In production and manufacturing, we often encounter the material 42CrMo4 mentioned in the drawings of European countries, it looks similar to 42CrMo. Whether these two grades are common, what is the difference, and what are the characteristics of each, let us briefly analyze today.

1. Standard
42CrMo is the grade in the technical conditions of GB/T 3077 alloy structural steel, and 42CrMo4 is the grade in EN10083 quenched steel and tempered steel.

2.Different ingredients

Grade C Si Mn P Mo Cr
42CrMo 0.38-0.45 0.17-0.45 0.50-0.80 ≤0.035 0.15-0.25 0.90-1.20
42CrMo4 0.38-0.45 ≤0.40 0.60-0.90 ≤0.035 0.15-0.30 0.90-1.20

3. Application fields
42CrMo steel is a medium-carbon alloy structural steel with good comprehensive mechanical properties, good hardenability and wide application. In the machinery industry, 42CrMo steel is often used to manufacture important parts such as gears, connecting rods, and high-strength bolts.

42CrMo4 alloy steel is widely used in engineering steel applications, such as: manufacturing various machinery, automobiles, mining parts, engine gears, supercharger drive gears, connecting rods, high pressure pin bearing housings, power train application parts, cold forming fastening Parts, shafts, gears, and drill collars for oil exploration, etc.
